Identifying a good land plot

Some good land plots can be identified in the first instance itself. Such plots will give a nice and cool feeling to anyone.  They are

- Any land felt comfortable to cows, animals and people is ideal for living. Lands with nice breeze and moderate heat and cold is always preferred  not only by people but also by animals. Such plots are very good.
- Land with trees bearing yields, fruits, flowers and which is slightly inclined to the east, or even leveled is very good to be a place of residence.
- Just while walking some pleasant noise is generated
- A river flowing on the right side
- Upon throwing some seed if they spring within 3 days
- Digging a hole and able to fill  the same hole with the same quantity of soil (not in need of more soil than   what was taken out in the first instance)
- with no water scarcity in the summer and not feeling too cold in the winter

More of the above-mentioned qualities means the land is better.

Land with holy grass is good for brahmins.
Land with nice and smooth grass is good for Kshatriyas(warriors).
Land with trees bearing fruits and flowers is good for Vaisyas (business class).
Land with ordinary grass is good for Sudras(low,supportive class).

Land quality on the basis of it's slope

A plot with its east, north and NE corner in inclined to the lower level is said to be very good.
On the other hand, a plot with its south-east corner inclined to the lower level, is likely to cause fear of fire and hence is not considered to be a good choice.
A plot with its southern side in a low level, is said to cause untimely death.
A plot with its south-west corner inclined low is believed to cause grief.

A plot with its north side in a lower level, is ideal for Brahmins.
A plot with its east side in a lower level, is good for Kshatriyas (warriors).
A plot with its southern side in a lower level, is good for Vysias(business class).
A plot with its western side in a lower level, is good for Sudras(lower class).

These characteristics of the land is effective only if it has not been altered. If it has been altered, the above said descriptions will not hold true. The altered land usually brings more negative effect.

Caste system and Vasthu

In Indian philosophy casts were  based on the nature of the individual, which unfortunately got misused later.

A Brahmin(learned man) is one who is well-versed with the vedas.
A Kshatriya (warrior)is one who is very good is protecting his country .
A Vaisa is one who is good in carrying on business activities.
A Sudra is one who is good in performing supportive roles of menial nature to the society.

Land plots are also classified according to the class to which it is most suitable.

Lands with nice fragrance is good for Brahmins.
Lands with smell of blood is ideal for the Kshatriya (warrior).
Lands with smell of honey is suited to Vaisyas (business class).
Lands with smell of alcohol and intoxicating stuff is ideal for the Sudra class.

Another view is based on the quality of the class on the basis of Satva, Rajas, and Tamo gunas.
Thus, sweet land is for Brahmins, sour land is for Kshatriyas,  salty land is for Vaisyas and bitter land is for Sudras.

Vasthu Characteristic of a plot

Any property has to be constructed on a plot of land. Obviously the nature of the land is very important from the physical construction point of view.

According to the science of Vasthu, the quality of the plot has significant effects on the well being of the people to be residing in that plot. This applies to the case of the animals also which too are to be reared in that plot.

Vasthu Purusha and the Eight directions

Once he receives the ownership of the property, Vasthu Purusha rules the property through the rulers of the eight directions.
They are
1. East :
King Devendra is the authority of the east. This direction is very important for Sun salutation etc, because of Sun rises from the east. In astrology, east is given to the Sun. Also, the astrological signs Mesha(Aries), Simha(Leo), and Dhanu(Sagittarius) are allotted to this direction.

2. South East:
This direction is also known as Agni (fire) direction. Fire God is the authority. In astrology, this direction is allotted to the Moon.

3. South:
This direction is allotted to the Lored Yama (king of death). In astrology, this direction is allotted to Kuja(Mars).

4. South West:
Lord of the asuras(demons), Niryathi Deva is the owner of this direction. In astrology, Budha ( mercury) is ruling this direction.

5.West:
Varuna Deva(Lord of water) is the lord of this direction. In astrology, Guru (Jupitor) is the authority of this direction.

6. North West:
Owned by the lord of Air (Vayu), this direction is ruled by Sukra (Venus) in astrology.

7. North:
Lord of Richness( Kubera) rules North side. In astrology, Saturn rules this side.

8.North East:
Known as Eesana dikku, this side is ruled by Iswara ( also called Gangadhara and Mrithyunjaya). According to astrology, Rahu rules this side.
Head of Vasthu Purusha is at this corner, and his feet are at the Niryathi kone (South West corner).

Who is Vasthu Purusha

Vasthu Purusha is considered to be  a part of the divine body of Lord Siva. Once the boundary of a land property is decided, the spiritual ownership of the property is owed to the Vasthu Purusha. Each and every landed property of this world contains a part of the universal Vasthu Purusha.

Every land property, the buildings it contains, and the living being in that property are under the protection of the Vasthu Purusha. Taking care of the Vasthu Purusha's spiritual presence by means of vedic ceremonies ensures the well-being of the living entities of the property.

On the other hand, if Vasthu Purusha was not propitiated during the initiation of the construction, occupation of the completed structure, the Vasthu Purusha can eat and destroy the occupants in various ways. They are expressed in the form of bad omens, etc. In fact Lord Brahma is believed to have given such a boon to Vasthu Purusha who originated from the sweat of  Lord Siva while he was on a fight with a demon.

Effect of Vasthu on humans and animals

Humans and animals living in a household which was constructed upon the principles of Vasthu, lead a happy and cordial life towards one another. If principles of Vasthu was not taken in to consideration, the inhabitants will find it extremely unhappy and usually unfortunate events arise.

Vasthu and Vedic astrology

Vasthu and vedic astrology are interrelated.

It is customary to consult a vedic astrologer before a house construction is started. After considering/analysing the astrological chart of the house owner, the astrologer suggests the proper direction of the main entrance of the house, color for the house, month, star of the day construction to start, weekday, time etc to begin for the construction.

Similarly, astro consultation is required to find the best day and time to start living in the house (house warming).

What is Vasthu sastra

The science of Vasthu deals with mainly human inhabiting structures. Even though this is not a complete definition, it can be accepted for practical purposes.

Brahma, the creator, is the original source of Vasthu sastra (sastra means science).
Brahma passed over the information of Vasthu Sastra to Viswa karma whose origin was Lord Siva. (Viswa means Universe). It is believed that Viswakarma originated from the third eye of Lord Siva.

Vasthu is the science which encompasses the sets of rules regarding construction of houses,and other structures. It is a fully technical field. It is based on well-proven facts.

Panchaboothas (the five elements) are the basis of Vasthu sastra. They are earth, water, fire, air, and ether.
The whole universe is the working scene (domain) of vasthu sastra. The aim of this science is to enhance spiritual & material comforts and high levels of achievements to the humanity.
